Yasser Arafat: 1929 - 2004

A terrorist for opponents and a freedom fighter for Palestinians, Arafat was known as a skilled tactician. Analysts give many theories for Arafat's long and successful tenure in West Asian politics. Some believe his personal survival was due to Israel's fear that he could become a martyr for the Palestinian cause if assassinated. After falling ill, he was shifted to a hospital in Paris, but slipped into irreversible coma. The end came on November 11.
