Venue & Year of theft: The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum,Boston, 1990
Modus Operandi: Two men in police uniforms turned up at the museum at dawn, claiming to have heard of a disturbance in the grounds. They handcuffed the security guards to railings as soon as they were let in, and made off with the paintings.
Current status: Still missing. A $5-million reward has been offered for the safe return of the art.
