The doctors and forest officials at Jalpaiguri in West Bengal are treating an injured elephant calf.

The elephant calf was brought in the evening on Friday by forest officials into the local forest department's clinic after it was found in an injured state in the Jadalpara National Park reserve forest area.

The elephant was severely injured and there was deep wound over its eyes.

The doctors treating the injured elephant said that it is only after two to three days that they will be able to comment over its condition.

"The elephant was brought to us 12 hours ago. Currently, his condition is critical. It has got very deep wounds so we working towards healing them. We are keeping it under observation for two to three days and it is only after that we can say confidently as to how it is responding to the treatment," said Rajendra Jakhar, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Jadalpara National Park.

It is still not clear as to how the elephant was injured. However, the officials suspect that it must have resulted from the attack by some predatory animal.

There was also the possibility that the calf must have got separated from its mother and the rest of the herd due to which, it fell prey to the attacks. (ANI)
