New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Monday formed the Indian Court of Arbitration for Sports (ICAS) to settle all sports-related disputes.

The IOA constitution was amended during the Ranchi National Games leading to the constitution of ICAS.

This was done in view of the directions issued by International Olympic Association.

'As far back in the year 1985-86, the Supreme Court of India had commented as to why the disputes in relation to sports are not being decided by arbitration and instructed a set up of arbitration machinery,' an IOA press release stated.

The ICAS will be made up of retired Supreme Court judges and retired high court chief justices and judges.

An International Court of Arbitration functions at Laussane to settle all sports-related disputes.
