IPL 6: Mumbai Indians beat KKR

In a thrilling contest, Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by five wickets in the 33rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.

Chasing 160 for victory, Mumbai scored 162 for five in 19.5 overs.

Dwayne Smith remained the top scorer for Mumbai with his 45-ball 62. He hammered five sixes and three boundaries in his important knock.

Rohit Sharma (34) and Kieron Pollard (33) made significant contributions with their willows.

Birthday boy Sachin Tendulkar contributed only 2 runs with his bat as fans expected a special innings from him.

KKR´s Rajat Bhatia bowled the final over as the visitors needed just 10 runs to win the match.

Bhatia picked up the wicket of dangerous Pollard on the very first ball of his over.

Harbhajan Singh (7*), however, shattered KKR´s hope as he smashed a massive six on the third ball of the over.

With two to get off two balls, Ambati Rayudu hit a boundary over extra cover to seal the win for Mumbai.

Sunil Narine picked up three wickets for the defending IPL champions.

Earlier, KKR scored 159 for six in 20 overs.

KKR openers, Gautam Gambhir (26) and Yusuf Pathan (19), gave a good start to their side as they smashed 26 runs off the very first over of the innings.

Pathan hit three fours and a six while Gambhir smashed another six as Mumbai´s Harbhajan Singh gave away 26 runs in his very first over.
KKR lost Pathan´s wicket in the very next over of the innings.

Jacques Kallis (37) and Manoj Tiwary (33) and Eoin Morgan (31) made some crucial contributions with their bats.

Mitchell Johnson, Lasith Malinga, Pragyan Ojha picked up two wickets each for Mumbai.
