IPL 6: RCB beat Mumbai by 2 runs

In a nail-biting encounter, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) started their Indian Premier League (IPL) with a win as the home side defeated Mumbai Indians by two runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Thursday.

Chasing 157 runs for victory, Vinay Kumar bowled well in the last over to restrict Mumbai to 154 runs for five in their 20 vers.

Kumar picked up the wickets of Dinesh Karthik (60) and Ambati Rayudu (18) in consecutive deliveries in the final over of the Mumbai innings as the visitors needed 10 runs to win the match.

Kumar picked up three wickets by giving away 27 runs in his four overs.

Karthik remained the top scorer for Mumbai.

Sachin Tendulkar (23) and Ricky Ponting (28) gave Mumbai a good start as they scored 52 runs in the first wicket partnership.

RCB picked up their first wicket when Tendulkar was run out in the eighth over of the innings.

Ponting was stumped off Murali Kartik.

Earlier, riding on opener Chris Gayle´s 92 runs, RCB scored 156 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.

Gayle smashed an unbeaten 92 off 58 deliveries. He hit 11 boundaries and five massive sixes in his innings.

Skipper Virat Kohli remained the second top scorer for RCB with his 24 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets for Mumbai.
