Irrigation scam: Maha water resources Shirke asked to go on leave

Mumbai: Maharashtra Water Resources Secretary Devendra Shirke, who is among the 45 bureaucrats facing departmental inquiry in the irrigation scam, has been asked to go on compulsory long leave, officials said today.

Shirke was the executive director of the Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation (VIDC) when the alleged scam took place in 2009.

V Giriraj, an IAS rank official, has been entrusted with additional responsibilities as water resources secretary, officials said.
