Why you ask? and how can I be so sure you wonder! Well here's why.
Because the world is about 4 billion-odd-years-old and it is not going to cease to exist on December 22. It didn't just pop into existence one fine sunny morning. In fact, it took about millions of years for the first rays of light to even touch it.
And just because the Mayan calendar is going to end, it doesn't naturally mean we are all going to be turned into dust or die by way of some huge Earth-consuming catastrophe. The Mayan calendar's cycle just stops at Dec 21, 2012. It dates only for a period of 5,125 years, and a fresh calendar begins, just like the ones we have come New Year's Day.
