Gandhinagar, June 14 (IBNS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to interrogate two top Gujarat bureaucrats, who were believed to be close to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, in the fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan in 2004.

"We cannot reveal their names to media at the moment. But all we can say is we have found that they made several calls to the cops involved in the staged encounter. We want to know how much they knew about the illegal detention of Ishrat and the three others who were gunned down along with her," said a top CBI official on conditions of anonymity.

The CBI earlier said that a senior official of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was involved in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

Rajinder Kumar, who is scheduled to retire next month as a Special Director at the IB, is expected to be interrogated by the CBI on Tuesday.

The CBI is probing whether an AK-47 that was found at the site of the killing of the 19-year-old college student may have been supplied by Kumar, who was a Joint Director then.

Ishrat was gunned down by Gujarat Police along with Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, Amjad Ali alias Rajkumar Akbar Ali Rana and Jisan Johar Abdul Gani in Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.

The Gujarat Police had claimed that the four were on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
