The majestic Gateway of India, the favourite Holiday spot of Mumbaikars and visitors from outside will be out of bounds for the common as Obama will stay at the Taj Mahal hotel which has been cordoned off.
Mumbaikars will not get a chance to celebrate Diwali holidays at the Gateway and take a boat ride to Elephanta caves, Uran and Alibag.
The day began early with people ushering in the festivities with a "Abhyang Snan" (traditional bath) with 'utna', fragrant oils and special soaps. Homes were decorated with rangolis and diyas. Dressed in best of their outfits, children burst crackers.
This year, Laxmi Puja also falls on the same day today.
