Carolina Kostner of Italy has won the singles title at the ISU Grand Prix Final.
The Italian topped a field that was missing two-time world champion Mao Asada. Asada returned to Japan on Thursday after learning her mother was seriously ill. Her mother died before Mao could arrive.
Dressed in an unconventional sparkling silver unitard, Kostner skated an almost-flawless program to Mozart's Concerto No. 23. Her only misstep Saturday was a hand down on her triple flip.
She scored 121.05 points in the free program for 187.48 points overall. Akiko Suzuki of Japan won the silver and Alena Leonova of Russia took the bronze.
The Grand Prix Final features the top six skaters based on points from the Grand Prix circuit.
