Chennai: “I feel this award is a recognition for the Indians in the Gulf,” said journalist Soman Baby, one of the recipients of this year’s Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award.
Speaking to Sify.com, Soman, who is the Associate Editor of The Gulf Daily News in Bahrain, said journalists should have social responsibilities and involve in social activities.
He said, “There are five million Indians working in the Gulf, a majority of them as ordinary workers. They are facing lots of issues. I have tried to highlight these issues through my writings.”

Soman, who is one of the founder-members of the Bahrain-India Society, said he had been closely associated with many organisations working for the welfare of the NRIs in the Gulf.
He said thousands of Indians would return to India in the latter half of this year after losing their jobs in the Gulf.The government should utilise their experience, he said.
