Srinagar, Sept 3 (IBNS) An independent legislator from Jammu and Kashmir has submitted a resolution in the House seeking amnesty to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.

Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar on Saturday, Engineer Abdul Rasheed, MLA from Langate constituency in Kupwara district, said he has sought clemency for Guru on humanitarian grounds.

"If Tamil Nadu Assembly can pass a resolution to save the lives of the killers of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, why can't we," he said.

He appealed both ruling National Conference (NC) and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to come forward and support his resolution.

"We must save a human life. If Afzal will be hanged, it will prove disastrous for the state," Rasheed said.

The independent MLA said executing Guru can have ´serious consequences´ on the situation in Kashmir, adding that he expects the resolution to be taken up in the Assembly during its forthcoming session scheduled to begin from September 26.

Rashid said that those people who are in favour of hanging Afzal are basically the ´enemies of peace´.
