A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Karnataka mining baron G Janardhana Reddy and four others till Nov 26 in connection to an illegal mining case.

Reddy was not produced before the court from Hyderabad´s Chanchalguda jail through video conferencing due to technical problems.

Reddy´s personal assistant Mehfuz Ali Khan, who is in police custody in Hyderabad in connection to the same case, was also not produced before the court.

The rest accused were produced before the CBI court through video conferencing from Parappana Agrahara jail.

The CBI court earlier rejected the bail pleas of the five accused.

Reddy was arrested by the CBI on Sept 5 last year following allegations of involvement in running an illegal mining empire with his brother Karunakara Reddy in Bellary region.

The CBI recovered Rs 3 crore in cash and 30 kilos of gold from his house.

The Reddy brothers were powerful ministers in the BS Yeddyurappa government till the latter resigned over his alleged roles in various scams.

A Centrally Empowered Committee (CEC), in its report to the Supreme Court, had said that the Reddy brothers have been mining in areas demarcated as forest land in 2004 'with the connivance of Andhra Pradesh government officials´.

They were indicted by the former Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hedge too, triggering a huge row.
