Chennai: Supporters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa celebrated her 65th birthday at the office of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) here on Sunday.
A party worker Sundari said: "It is our Amma's (Jayalalithaa) 65th birthday. She has celebrated it in a grand manner and has made arrangements to help the needy. She hopes and helps in the upliftment of the poor. She has blessed us all and thus we hope and pray for her to live a long life on her birthday."
The AIADMK party came to power in 2011 after winning the 14th assembly elections. Jayalalithaa was sworn in as the chief minister on May 16 in that year.
An enthusiastic supporter, Nellai Stelvai, said: "Jayalalithaa is the force that protects the Tamil Nadu and its people. She has also a person who has lived in our hearts forever and will continue to do so. Our amma Jayalalithaa will always strive to do the best for the state and to develop it as the number one state in the country. And she has done a lot for the state to flourish."
Starting her political career under the guidance of late AIADMK chief, M.G. Ramachandran, she struck a chord with people in the state after her maiden speech at a political conference in the state.
With a political career spanning over 30 years, Jayalalithaa is the first woman chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
