Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren is all set to become the next chief minister of Jharkhand after the Congress announced an alliance with it. Announcing the alliance Hemant Soren said that JMM and Congress will form a coalition government in Jharkahand.

"We will also fight the 2014 elections together. The Congress today assured us the support," said Soren.

"We appeal all politicians to work for betterment of the state. We will initiate State formation very soon. Jharkhand is a backward state. We still try to take this challenge. Elections in every 6 months are not in favour of the state. We are not afraid of challenges. We can see this as protest in people's mind. The state became independent but main motive is still incomplete," Soren further added.

While the Congress will contest 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state, the JMM will put up candidates in the other four seats for the 2014 election. Apart from Jharkhand, the two parties will also contest Lok Sabha elections together in Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

The Jharkhand Assembly has 81 MLAs plus one nominated member. The half-way mark is 42. The JMM has 18 MLAs, Congress 13, RJD 5, JD(U) 2, Independent 2, BJP 18, JVM(P) 11, and others 12.

With 36 MLAs, JMM-Congress-RJD combine is banking on the support of some Independent MLAs for a simple majority. The combine is also hoping to get JD(U)'s support.

Jharkhand has been under the President's Rule since January 18, 2013. After the JMM-Congress alliance stakes claim to form the government, the Union Cabinet will revoke the President's Rule. (ANI)
