Eminent painter Jogen Chaudhary on Friday inaugurated the exhibition of California-based Saumi Nandi at the south gallery of The Academy of Fine Arts.

Fashion designer Abhishek Dutta and well known artist Hiran Mitra also joined Chaudhary in opening the show of the NRI Bengali painter who completed her studies here and shifted abroad for the higher degrees and work.

Saumi Nandi was interested in painting from a very young age which forced her parents to enroll her for art classes under the tutelage of Samir Ghosh who guided her for 12 long years and gave her a concrete idea about water colour, tempera, oil and wash techniques.

Jogen Chaudhary said that he was feeling good about the work that Saumi has done as painting and art are not always for commercial gain but for self-enjoyment too.

Her show titled Image Within Image is a psychic journey that was appreciated by the connoisseurs.

The exhibition will be on till Oct 27.
