Sydney: Wikileaks founder Julian Assange on Thursday launched his political party in order to contest the general elections in Australia this year.
The whistle-blowing website founder is currently at the Ecuadorian embassy in London which granted him asylum last year.
The WikiLeaks Party was launched via a videolink from London to Melbourne's Fitzroy library.
"WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange officially launched his Australian political party on Thursday with a videolink from London to Melbourne's Fitzroy library," The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
"WikiLeaks is fielding candidates to contest six Senate seats at the upcoming federal election - two each in Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia," it said.
Assange will field himself as a candidate from Victoria.
