The Delhi High Court on Thursday said sacked Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi will not be able to contest the election for the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief any more.
The court said the IOA polls will be held on the basis of the sports code.
Pertinently, the sports code does not permit more than three terms for the IOA chief.
The sacked CWG Organising Committee chairman headed the IOA for 18 years.
Kalmadi was the CWG Organizing Committee chief but was later sacked due to allegations of financial irregularities and poor organization of the Games.
He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of awarding illegal contracts to a Swiss firm for Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the 2010 Commonwealth Games causing a loss of Rs 95 crore to the exchequer.
