Kashmir Valley's first all-girl rock band, 'Pragaash', has decided to stop live performances for sometime after receiving threats and criticisms on social networking sites, reports said on Saturday.

The band members received warnings, including rape threats, following their first live performance at Srinagar in December.

Formed in 2012, the three-member band is comprised of Noma Nazir, Farah Deeba and Aneeqa Khalid.

"We will stay quiet for some time as we were threatened by people on Facebook and on the phone directing us to stop this band, or to face the consequences," Nazir told The Indian Express.

Deeba´s mother told the newspaper: "As a section of the society criticised the girls after their first live performance in the city, we told them to quit the band."

Band manager Adnan Matoo told NDTV: "They are young. They cried after seeing the abusive comments online. I told them such things keep happening in the social media."

The band is focusing on releasing a music album, reports said.

The girls, however, received support from netizens who created a page on popular social networking site Facebook named: ´I support Pragaash, Kashmir´s first all-girls´ rock band´.

As many as 322 people have ´liked´ the page so far.
