Anti-graft activist turned politician Arvind Kejriwal launched the Maharashtra chapter of his newly formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at a rally here in Raigad district.

Earlier this morning, Kejriwal along with his other party colleagues including Prashant Bhushan, Mayank Gandhi, Anjali Damania and several other activists and supporters gathered in Mumbai and moved towards rally venue by buses and cars to reach Roha, 110 km from Mumbai.

During the three-hour rally, Kejriwal lashed out at the Maharashtra government over the irrigation scam and sought support of the people for AAP.

"The country's biggest irrigation scam has taken place here. Farmers are being deprived of their lands and now water," said Kejriwal while addressing the rally.

Eminent Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan said that the government has forcefully acquired hectares of land from the poor farmers in the name of various projects, which have taken place only on the papers.

"Today our political system is working totally against the democratic values, and when we pointed out their misdeeds the people in power said us to first get elected and then talk about the system. So, we are here under the banner of Aam Aadmi Party to change the system," said Bhushan.

Kejriwal is expected to release a 'Black Paper' on the issue of Maharashtra irrigation scam as a counter to the Maharashtra Government's White Paper on irrigation projects.

He criticised the report presented to the state cabinet on Friday, which gives a clean chit to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who resigned following allegations of under-performance and corruption in the irrigation sector.

The party has claimed that the 'Black Paper' will expose details of the Rs. 70,000-crore irrigation scam in Maharashtra, including how it was perpetuated by the politician-bureaucrat-contractor nexus. (ANI)
