Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday rejected the Opposition's demand for a CBI inquiry into an alleged corruption scandal over a Rs 256-crore pollution control project contract for the state-owned Travancore Titanium Products Ltd (TTPL).
At the end of discussions on the adjournment motion moved by the Congress party leader in the state legislature, the Opposition staged a walk-out following the Chief Minister's refusal to discuss further enquiry as the case was under consideration of a court.
Communist Party of India-Marxist's (CPI-M) T M Thomas Issac asked for Chandy's resignation for causing Rs 100 crore loss to the state exchequer due to alleged political interference and conspiracy in the finalisation of the contract.
The opposition accuse the Chief Minister of unduly favouring central government undertaking Mecon Ltd for the contract despite a competing tender bid by FEDO, the design wing of Kerala's Fertlisers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd.
