Kishtwar violence: Report in SC today

New Delhi, Aug 21 (IBNS) The Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government on Wednesday will file a detailed report on the recent communal violence at Kishtwar district, that left three dead and over 20 injured.

According to reports, the Omar Abdullah government in its affidavit will state details of subsequent steps it took to control the situation.

The Supreme Court on Aug 14 asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to the injured in Kishtwar violence of Aug 9.

"A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam turned down the plea of the state government against compensating the injured persons till the judicial commission looking into the incident files its report," reported CNN-IBN.

"The injured are also entitled to compensation. How can you say that they are not entitled?" the bench reportedly asked the state government.

On Aug 13, the apex court ordered families of the deceased would be paid Rs 5 lakh as compensation, while those injured would get up to Rs 2 lakh depending on the seriousness of their wounds.
