Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni has appreciated the performance of both Virat Kohli and spinner R Ashwin in the second Test match against New Zealand at Bangalore.
"He is bowling brilliantly," Dhoni told reporters while speaking on Ashwin´s performance.
"If you see the two Tests, there were some periods where the spinners got some assistance from the pitch. Overall, the wickets were quite good to bat on and we had to bowl consistently in one area which I felt at sometimes made it difficult for Ashwin because he is someone who loves to take wickets," he said.
Dhoni said Kohli showed ´excellent temperament´ in the match.
"Virat, I felt, played really well in this Test match because we needed someone to soak up the pressure. He was the guy who did that in both the innings," Dhoni told media on Kohli´s performance.
India whitewashed New Zealand in the two-match Test series as they survived a middle-order to beat the hosts by five wickets in second the cricket Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday.
Chasing a target of 261, after New Zealand were skittled out for 248 in their second innings earlier in the day, Indians were left struggling at 166 for five.
But it was a crucial 96-run partnership off 121 balls for the unfinished sixth wicket between skipper Dhoni (48 not out) and Kohli (51 not out) that bailed out India and also sealed a win.
Kohli, who had scored 103 in the first innings, was adjudged Man of the Match while off-spinner R Ashwin who had a haul of 18 wickets, including 12 in the first Test at Hyderabad, was declared Man of the Series.
