Kolkata witnessed a two-day workshop on strengthening and implementing juvenile justice at the auditorium of the Calcutta High Court.
The workshop brought together a tripartite partnership among the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), the Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare (DWCD), Government of West Bengal and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
About 250 People from all districts across West Bengal participated in the workshop.
Lori Calvo, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, West Bengal said: "There is a sense of urgency to make a difference in the area of juvenile justice in West Bengal."
The main purpose of the workshop was to formalize the participants with provisions of The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 and the state rules.
Speaking on the goal of the workshop, Chairman of State Legal Services Authority, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose said, "The main purpose is to spread awareness about the Act among the people. They must know about the Act, and then only they will be able to perform properly and will come out with positivity."
