What happens when 55 cars and hundreds of motor sports enthusiasts get together. The answer is simple - it becomes eastern India's biggest TSD (time, speed, distance) rally.
Sponsored by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and co-sponsored by Ford - the Servo Futura Kolkata Car Rally on Saturday was organised in association with AAEI-Durgapur and with the technical support of Calcutta Motor Sports Club.
The rally was held under the guidance of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India.
It was flagged off by corporate dignitaries from Indian Oil Corporation and Ford from Axis Mall at New Town, Rajarhat and finished at A AEI - Durgapur.
West Bengal Sports Minister Madan Mitra graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The competitors covered a distance of 210 kms from Kolkata to Durgapur consisting of 20 per cent dirt track. The competitors drove through forests and rough terrains.
Altogether 55 cars competed in the Servo Futura Kolkata Car Rally comprising 23 General and 32 Novice teams, said Basudev Ghosh, Clerk of the Course.
"It is extremely encouraging to see such a great turn out. It is after many years that a TSD rally of this magnitude has been organised. We are happy to be associated with Servo Futura Kolkata Car Rally", said Samir Basu, Secretary, AAEI-Durgapur.
"With our collective effort and enthusiasm shown by motor sports lovers, the sun will shine bright in the horizon of eastern India's motor sporting circuit in the future", said Souvik Ghosh, Rally Coordinator.
TSD rallying (Time Speed Distance) is a form of motor sports usually conducted on public roads as well as off-road and dirt sections.
The objective of these rallies is to maintain precise times and precise average speeds on various segments of a predefined route.
