Koraput-Howrah Express collides with goods train

A passenger of the Koraput-Howrah Express was injured as the train collided with the locomotive of a goods train at Jharsuguda Station in Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway on early hours of Wednesday.

Two AC 3-tier coaches of 18006 Koraput-Howrah Express, 11th and 12th from engine were affected due to a side collision with the locomotive of a goods train at Jharsuguda Station in Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway at about 2 am on Wednesday.

One passenger of Koraput-Howrah Express, Bikash Naik, sustained minor injuries.

Railway doctors immediately attended the injured passenger and admitted him to the District Headquarters Govt. Hospital at Jharsuguda.

The passengers who were in affected coaches were accommodated in other coaches and the train left Jharsuguda at about 07.05 hrs for Howrah.

The train had violated the starter signal at Jharsuguda Station resulting in side collision with a goods train which had started from an adjacent line.

Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Eastern Circle, will conduct an inquiry into the accident.

Three major accidents took place in different parts of India since Tuesday. Two accidents took place on Wednesday itself.

On Wednesday morning, at least seven people were wounded when a goods train collided with the Samaleswari Express following a signal confusion at the Jharsuguda station in Orissa.

At least 20 people were injured on Wednesday as the engine and one coach of the Qazigund-Srinagar-Baramulla train was derailed at Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, at least seven people, including two children, were charred to death and several, including four Australians, were injured when two coaches of the Doon Express caught fire in the wee hours of Tuesday near Giridih district in Jharkhand.

Fire broke out in two AC 3-tier coaches of 13009 Up Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express, which left Howrah at 20.35 hrs. on Monday evening, at about 2.35 hrs. on Tuesday, between Nimia Ghat and Pareshnath stations near Gomoh of East Central Railway's Dhanbad division.

The position of the coaches was 8th and 9th from train engine. The train was having a total of 19 coaches.
