A hardcore militant of Karbi People Liberation Tigers (KPLT) was killed and one more injured in a gun battle with security forces in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday, police said.
"Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and army had launched a search operation at Dentaghat area in the hills district on the wee hours of Wednesday, where a militant group were hiding," a police official said.
"When we reached the area, the militant group firing on the troops and bullets were exchanged," the police official said.
One militant killed on spot and one more injured.
Security forces recovered one 9 mm pistol with magazine and ammunition from the slain militant.
Meanwhile, a source of Karbi Anglong police said that, a 40 members group of the outfit will be surrendered before security forces before August 15.
"A top leader of the outfit had discussed with top police officials for their willingness," he said.
On August 7, the outfit group sent a video footage of their armed cadres to media.
KPLT is active in Karbi Anglong and bordering areas of Nagaon and Golaghat district.
In past 45 days, at least five top leaders of the outfit had killed in gun battle with security forces in the hills district and security forces recovered huge cache of arms-ammunition.
