Kolkata's Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Damayanti Sen, who reportedly earned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's anger for backing the Park Street rape victim, was transferred from her position on Wednesday.

Sen was transferred as the Deputy Inspector General (Training) of a police training school in Barrackpore on the city´s outskirts.

The West Bengal government appointed Pallabkanti Ghosh as the new Joint Police Commissioner (Crime).

Earlier, Ghosh has worked as the DIG (Organisation).

It is assumed that removal of Sen from the post is an effect of her commendable job in cracking the rape case which was claimed by Mamata Banerjee as a ´conspiracy fabricated´ to malign her government.

After successfully cracking of the case, Sen said that the police had worked as a ´team´ to solve the matter.

A 37-year-old mother of two, belonging to the Anglo-Indian community, had said that she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint inside a moving car after she was given a lift in the vehicle from Park Street on the Feb 5-6 night.

While there were contradictions in her statement initially owing to the impersonation of the culprits, Sen had backed her and from start maintained that something wrong had happened to the lady.

Later the youths were arrested though the main accused, who allegedly committed the rape as others held the woman, fled the city and remained absconding.
