A court in Delhi on Thursday allowed a petitioner to drop Google India's name from a list of websites being sued for allegedly hosting offensive content on reasoning that the company itself was not a website but a software developing firm.

Administrative Civil Judge Parveen Singh passed the order after petitioner Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi´s counsel Santosh Pandey said that he had no objection to the plea of the company to remove its name from the list submitted by him.

The court also dropped cases against seven other Internet companies, Exbii, IMC India, My Lot, Shyni Blog, Topix, Zombie Time and Boradreader as they were not found to be proper parties to the suit, media reports said

However, Google's Internet properties that include its video sharing service YouTube, social networking website Orkut, blogging site Blogger and its parent company Google Inc, remained in the suit, media reports said.

Thursday's ruling leaves only six websites in the list of sites named in the suit and includes social networking bellwether Facebook. Cases against technology giants Yahoo and Microsoft were dropped earlier.
