Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Thursday tabled the Telangana statehood bill in the Rajya Sabha amidst protests.

Some members opposed to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh walked towards Shinde in an effort to interrupt him, but were stopped by MPs from the Congress and those favouring a separate Telangana state.

Members from the Trinamool Congress, Janata Dal (U) and Shiv Sena described the tabling of the bill as unconstitutional.

Telangana Bill to be tabled in Rajya Sabha today

After the Lok Sabha passed the bill for the creation of new state, the government is all set to pass the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2014 in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The upper house could not pass the bill yesterday as the government and the opposition were unable to reach any consensus over amendments in the bill.

The meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley and BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu too failed to yield any result.
