Stepping up his attack on Narendra Modi, BJP rebel Jaswant Singh today said "personality cult" was not good in a democracy and it would harm the party.

"The way the party is focusing on one person is not correct. This cannot work in a democracy," he said a day after he filed his nomination as an Independent from Barmer Lok Sabha constituency.

Veteran actress Nanda passes away

Veteran Bollywood actress Nanda, best known for her stellar performances in films like 'Hum Dono', 'Ittefaq' and 'Gumnaam', passed away today following a massive heart attack, family sources said.

The 75-year-old actress died this morning at her Andheri residence in Mumbai. "It is shocking as she did not have any history of illness," a relative of hers told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Born to Marathi film actor-director Vinayak Damodar Karnataki, Nanda began her silver screen career early as a child artist with 'Jaggu' in the 50s.

Hawking's black hole puzzle solved, claims US scientist

A Michigan State University researcher has claimed to plug the hole in famous theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking's black hole theory.

"In 1975, Hawking discovered that black holes are not all black. They actually radiate a featureless glow, now called 'Hawking radiation'," professor Chris Adami from Michigan State University said.

Indian-American in immigration scam settles with US body

An Indian-American businessman and two Chicago based organisations will pay $15 million to settle charges of raising $158 million dollars from close to 300 investors as part of an immigration scam.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission had charged Anshoo R. Sethi, A Chicago Convention Centre, LLC (ACCC) and Intercontinental Regional Centre Trust of Chicago, LLC (IRCTC) for their roles in the scam.

Russia's G8 summit cancelled over Ukraine crisis

US President Barack Obama and top economic powers have cancelled an upcoming G8 summit in Russia to build pressure on Moscow against its military action in Ukraine.

After the talks on the Ukraine crisis in The Hague, it was announced yesterday that the G8 summit scheduled in Sochi in June would be replaced by a G7 meeting in Brussels, without Russian involvement.

Senior Marathi actor Kuldeep Pawar passes away

Veteran movie and television actor Kuldeep Pawar passed away in Mumbai today after a brief illness.

Pawar, a popular actor known for his impeccable comic timing and some unforgettable negative roles, died at the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, after a kidney failure.

'Gupchup Gupchup', Shapit', 'Arre Sansar Sansar' and 'Vazir' were some of his prominent Marathi movies. He shot to fame with his television serial 'Paramveer'. Pawar also acted in plays like 'Pati Sagale Uchapati'.

The actor's last rites will be performed at Kolhapur in the presence of his family and friends.

Kejriwal to take on Narendra Modi in Varanasi rally today

Aam Aadmi party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to hold a massive rally in Varanasi on Tuesday during which he is expected to announce his plans to contest against BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi from the holy city.

Two ensure that AAP convener’s rally is successful, several AAP leaders, including Sanjay Singh, and hundreds of party supporters have already started arriving in Varanasi.
