The Congress stormed back to power in Manipur by winning 34 of the 50 seats as its party officials said they are going to "win with no less than 35 seats". The state assembly has 60 seats.

There was jubilation in the Congress camp after Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh retained his Thoubal seat, defeating his rival from the BJP Indira Oinam by a huge margin of over 15,000 votes.

Ibobi Singh's wife Landhoni Devi won the Khangabok seat defeating her rival Jatra Singh of Manipur People's Party (MPP) by a huge margin of over 9,000 votes. Khangabok was the chief minister's constituency earlier.

Opposition parties received a severe jolt after three leaders, Radhabinod Koijam of the NCP, O. Joy Singh and Th Chaoba Singh of MPP, lost to their rivals. Koijam, who was leader of opposition in the outgoing Manipur assembly, is a former chief minister and was instrumental in bringing the 11 non-Congress parties under one anti-Congress alliance -- Peoples' Democratic Alliance (PDA).

Okram Ibobi Singh will be the second chief minister in the northeast to make it to the top seat for the third consecutive time in recent times after Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

While Gogoi brought the party to power in Assam in 2001, 2006 and 2011, Ibobi Singh had single-handedly brought the Congress to power in Manipur in 2002 and in 2007.

Congress spokesman in Manipur N. Biren Singh, who has won from the Heingang constituency, said the Congress party is going to form the next government in the state. "We are going to win not less than 35 seats this time," he said

The Defeat Of Mr O.Joy Is A Remarkable Development In The Political Scenario Of Manipur. Hope He Understands The Power Of The Common Man. Another Defeat For Koijam Radhabinod. N. Joykishan, A New Candidate Of The Trinamool Congress Won The Race For The Thangmeiband Constituency. This Is A Sign For The Old Players To Take Retirement From This Field And Seek Redemption For Their Past Unsolicited Achievement.

The Amount Spent Are In Crores By The Candidates In Manipur. Do You Think The Elected Candidate Would Spend Time Chalking Out Development Designs And Initiatives? I Hope They Do. But It Will Not Happen. They Are Going To Take These 5 Years To Retrieve Their Lost Black Money And We All Are Going To Live In The Darkness Again. Think About It, Why Are We Considered A Poor State When We Are Self Sustainable? Why Isnn't There Peace When There Are Diversity Of Language, Caste And Religion Living In Harmony? Who Do You Think Created This Imbalance, This Chaos?

We Want Development. If O.Ibobi Lose And Doesn't Become The CM, Then The Incomplete Projects That Manipur Has Would Take Another Decade. Other Opposition Leaders And Politicians Are Into Corruption And Crime, But The Mind Of The Common Man is Focussed On The Political Backlashes Of Their Representative Rather Than Focus On The Issues And Find Someone Who Can Find The Solution To These Problems.

The Congress is hoping to keep power in the state, bucking the anti-incumbency trend. But the BJP, through some high-profile campaigners, has it eye on the state as well.
