No one held in rape cases of Muzaffarnagar riots

Over two months after the Muzaffarnagar riots, no arrests have been so far in the 13 cases of rape and sexual harassment during the violence in which over 100 people have been booked.

According to Special Investigation Team sources, police haveregistered 13 cases of rape and sexual harassment and named 111 people in different places in the district, but no one has been arrested in this connection so far.

Actor Paul Bhattacharjee killed himself after being declared bankrupt

British Indian actor Paul Bhattacharjee was declared bankrupt shortly before he committed suicide in July this year, an inquest has heard.

Bhattacharjee, 53, who had starred in James Bond film 'Casino Royale' and television soap 'EastEnders', had an "irreparable" darkness inside him which might have led him to commit suicide, the inquest at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court was told, The Telegraph reported Thursday.

Twenty six years after Sachin Tendulkar performed as a ball boy at the Wankhede Stadium, his son Arjun was today seen on the ground doing the same duty in the legendary batsman's farewell Test in Mumbai.

14-year-old Arjun, who was part of Mumbai's under-14 squad last year, was on the ground when the cricket legend was batting in his landmark 200th Test and also when he was caught at slips by Darren Sammy off Narsingh Deonarine.

US President Barack Obama has announced his intention to nominate Indian-American Dr Vivek Hallegere Murthy as his next surgeon general.

Co-Founder and President of Doctors for America, Dr Murthy is a Hospitalist Attending Physician and Instructor in Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital at Harvard Medical School.

Minor fire in store room of Satish Dhawan Space Centre

A minor fire, which broke out in the store room at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, some 100 km from Chennai, has been doused off, sources said today.

The "minor fire" in a small store room, which was spotted around 5 AM yesterday was put out later, ISRO sources said.

A non-resident Indian (NRI) woman has reportedly been arrested for allegedly torturing her domestic help in New Delhi.

According to reports on Friday, the maid, who was working for four years at the NRI woman's Mayur Vihar residence, complained that her mistress used to beat her up and kept her in confinement.

The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh has given ticket to only one Muslim candidate for contesting the November 25 state Assembly elections for which it is being criticised by Opposition party Congress.

The Congress has criticised the BJP while alleging that the party is trying to "fool" the community despite Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan embracing the community during festivals even as the saffron party has defended itself saying that it does not believe in religion or caste-based politics.

27-year-old 'pregnant' woman killed after rape

A beheaded body of a woman was recovered from army area near Raj Bhawan in Dehradun, police said on Thursday.

The headless body of a 27-year-old woman kept in a sack was found by rag pickers in the army area about 200 metres from Raj Bhawan on Wednesday evening, SP (city) Jagdish Chandra said.

Four killed in Maharashtra train accident

At least four passengers were killed and 50 injured as four bogies of the Nizamuddin (Delhi)-Ernakulam Mangala Express derailed here early Friday, officials said.

The accident took place around 6.30 a.m. in the treacherous ghat sections of Nashik between Ghoti and Igatpuri stations on the Central Railway route.

Physically challenged girl raped, commits suicide

A 17-year-old physically challenged girl allegedly committed suicide in Loni area after she was raped by a contractor of the factory, where she was working.

The girl, who was crippled and had started working in the garment factory in Tronica City only a few days ago, was found hanging in her house in Ashok Vihar area yesterday, police said today.

The victim's family has filed a police complaint alleging that a night before she had told them that a contractor in the factory had took her to a closed unit and raped her, police said.

A case has been registered against the contractor, but he was yet to be arrested.
