When a 23-year-old nurse accidentally encountered the man accused of trying to rape and murder her on a local train in Mumbai, she could not contain her rage.
For around three minutes, at the police station handling her case, with at least three constables watching, she slapped the suspect repeatedly on his face.

Sexual assault case: Asaram's Chhindwara hostel warden Shilpi denies knowing him

Self-styled godman Asaram's Chhindwara hostel warden Shilpi on Wednesday denied knowing him. She also moved Jodhpur sessions court for anticipatory bail. Police had claimed that Shilpi allegedly fed the victim stories about ghosts and spirits to lure her away.

She has been absconding since August 29. Asaram, accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at his ashram, was taken to the MDM hospital for a test but he refused to give his blood for the same. He did not agree for the blood test and even questioned the police's motive, alleging that the officials would inject him with some harmful medicines.

A Delhi court on Wednesday reserved the order on sentencing the four convicted in the December 16 gang rape case to Friday. The four already convicted in the case are: Pawan Gupta, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur and Mukesh.

Vivek Sharma, the lawyer for 19-year-old convict Pawan Gupta, argued that leniency should be shown while senetencing the teenager. He said that Pawan’s conduct in jail has been good and since he is so young, there is a strong chance of him reforming. Sharma argued that not only the crime, the convict’s psychology should also be taken into account. However, the prosecution is in no mood to cede ground.

The lawyer cited the Dhananjay Chatterjee rape case that took place in Kolkata. Chatterjee, a guard with a Kolkata building and raped and killed 14-year-old Hetal Parekh, a resident of the same building. After spending close to a decade in jail, Chatterjee was hanged in Kolkata.

On a day four men were convicted of the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl that horrified the nation, a two-year-old girl was hospitalized after being allegedly raped in Ludhiana, Punjab.

The toddler was assaulted and left bleeding on the roadside on Tuesday. She was spotted hours later by a man who alerted the police and took her to the hospital. She is said to be in a critical condition.

US court serves summons to Sonia Gandhi in hospital

A US court has served summons to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in a case accusing her of shielding party leaders allegedly involved in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

Mrs Gandhi was reportedly served summons at the Sloan Kettering hospital, where she had been admitted for a medical check-up.

The summons was handed over to the hospital and security staff, said a statement. But the Congress said Sonia Gandhi was returning to India today and had not received any summons personally. "Summons have to be received personally for us to respond," said a senior leader.

Interacting with local media persons at the Circuit House here, on the eve of his party's two-day national executive meeting, he also asserted that the government in New Delhi after the Lok Sabha polls will be formed by the Third Front.

The prime minister too would be decided only after the poll results, he said, also dismissing the possibility of Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi becoming the prime minister.
