Had information that blasts may occur: Shinde

The government had received intelligence warning of blasts taking place in the country, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said Thursday in the wake of the twin blasts in Hyderabad.

"We were receiving information for the last two days that such a blast may take place... we cannot speculate about the perpetrators at this point of time," Shinde told reporters here.

Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh also said that the government had got intelligence about the blast.

Shinde put the toll at eight - five in the first blast and three in the second. He said both the blasts took place within 100 to 150 metres of each other in the crowded Dilsukhnagar, a busy commercial area in the southern part of city, about 15 km from the heart of the city.

The Prime Minister has described the two bomb blasts in Hyderabad this evening as a "dastardly attack." Tweets from his office vowed, "The guilty will not go unpunished."

Police say bombs may have been placed on cycles

The state police said the bombs may have been placed on top of a cycle.

Union Home Secretary R K Singh said the NSG team is leaving by a BSF aircraft. A team of NIA hub stationed in Hyderabad has also rushed to the spot.

The previous major attack in Hyderabad was on August 25, 2007 when two blasts took place almost simultaneously.

The first blast was reported at a park and it was followed by another in a eating joint in Hyderabad.

Chief Minister N Kiran Reddy has rushed to the blast site.

Atleast 15 people injured in blasts: Report

The blasts occurred near two theatres in Dilsukhnagar, a busy commercial area in the southern part of city, about 15 km from the heart of the city

Eye witnesses said they heard two loud explosions within a couple of minutes. Police have not yet confirmed either the cause of the explosions or the number of casualties.

The first blast occurred around 7 p.m. near a tiffin centre opposite Venkatadri theatre and the second near Konark theatre. Both the theatres are about 500 meters from each other.

Ambulances and police vehicles rushed to the area. The injured were shifted to Yashoda Hospital at Malakpet and to the government-run Osmania Hospital.

Gory pictures of the victims without limbs were seen. Others with bleeding injuries were shifted to ambulances.

Police say at least 15 people have been killed in a pair of explosions in Hyderabad.

The blasts on Thursday were about 10 minutes apart and occurred outside a movie theater and a bus station.

Police say they are trying to determine the cause of the explosions.

Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the NSG team is on their way to the blast site.

About 50 to 60 are injured, say official sources.

Blasts took place at 7 pm.
