New Delhi/ Srinagar, Mar 26 (IBNS): Amid a row over the arrest of alleged terrorist Sayyed Liyaqat Shah, the central government will work with state governments to make the surrender policy work better, said media reports.
A larger policy framework is likely to be chalked out by the government on surrender and rehabilitation of militants, NDTV reported citing sources.
Owing to the pressure from Jammu and Kashmir government, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Monday handed over the case of suspected terrorist Liyaqat Shah to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The NIA will investigate the circumstances under which the suspected militant was arrested.
Shah´s arrest has triggered a controversy with the Jammu and Kashmir Police claiming that they knew about the militant´s return to India from Pakistan via Nepal.
Negating the claims made by the Delhi Police, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had reportedly said that Shah was returning to Kashmir to surrender.
