Hyderabad: Maintaining that restrictions imposed by Andhra Pradesh government on sale of agriculture produce in other states caused great loss to farmers, Lok Satta Party president N Jayaprakash Narayan today defied them as a token of protest.
Narayan, a bureaucrat-turned-politician, set out on a 'padayatra' from Kurnool district and moved over to neighbouring Karnataka to sell paddy.
"Though Centre has permitted farmers to sell their produce anywhere in the country, the Andhra Pradesh government has imposed restrictions on inter-state sale of paddy and rice. The farmers of Andhra Pradesh have lost crores of rupees due to these unjustified restrictions," Lok Satta Executive President D V V S Varma said in a release here today.
Describing Narayan's 'padayatra' as a great success, Varma said the party's struggles for farmers' benefits would continue.
