Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, who turns 57 on Tuesday, will not celebrate her birthday lavishly this year.

Unlike the celebrations every year with huge rallies and an extravagant display of power and money, Mayawati will keep it a low-key affair this time owing to the "horrible events" happening in the country recently, reports said.

In a communication sent to all district offices of the party on the New Year, the leader asked her party workers to offer blankets and other necessary items to the poor in their respective areas on her birthday, but they were expected to ensure that it was a low-key affair.

Mayawati had even convened a meeting on Jan 7 to ensure with the party workers to celebrate her birthday in a simple manner.

According to reports, a BSP leader said the former CM had ordered against the playing of Bollywood songs and displaying of money or muscle power on her birthday.

He said the party workers have also been asked to refrain from collecting donations on her birthday.

The party has reportedly hired folk singers and is preparing audio CDs, with a theme song called ´Behenji, Sansad ki sherni´ (Behenji, the lioness of Parliament) to be played at all district headquarters on Mayawati´s big day.
