A Division Bench of Justice S.Tamilvanan and Justice T.Raja yesterday ordered show cause notice to be issued to the Home Secretary, DGP and IG(South Zone).

The Judges said the Principal seat of the court had taken suo motu initiative and issued guidelines to prevent footboard travelling, after four students died at Chennai last month while travelling on the footboard.

The court ordered the Police on December 11, to prevent footboard travelling. But a Tamil daily had carried a picture of a bus with about 20 students travelling on the footboard yesterday. The government should explain as to why it had not taken action to prevent footboard travelling.

The judges asked the Home Secretary to issue a circular to police officials to implement the court order and sought a report on action taken within three weeks and file a report.
