Beijing, Oct 21 (IANS) A man who fatally stabbed a doctor and injured three others at a hospital in China has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Li Mengnan, 18, was also ordered to pay 680,000 yuan (about $100,800) to the victims' families by the Intermediate People's Court in Harbin Friday.

Li, from the Inner Mongolia region, had visited the No 1 Affiliated Hospital with his grandfather in April for treatment of a spinal problem, the People's Daily reported.

The hospital found he was also suffering from tuberculosis. The doctors suggested that he should first be treated for TB before he could start treatment for spinal problem.

Li thought the hospital was refusing treatment for his spinal condition. He fatally stabbed Wang Hao, an intern whom he never met before, and injured three other doctors.

Li's lawyer Wei Liangyue said he will spend about 15 years in jail.
