London: A dog owner in Britain had his face split open after being assaulted with an axe by a fellow dog owner after their pets began play fighting while being walked in the street, a media report said.
The assailant has been sentenced to eight years, the Daily Mail reported.
Michael Gaskell, 45, was confronted by a furious Michael Parr, 46, who complained Gaskell's Japanese Akita was not on a lead, a court was told.
Picking up a fight, Parr warned the self-employed plumber: "You don't know what I'm capable of", before he returned, took out an axe from his jacket and swung it at Gaskell's head.
Gaskell, of Greater Manchester, sustained a massive 10 inch gash, stretching from his left ear to his cheek and almost lost his ear in the attack. He required 12 stitches and is now scarred for life, the judge heard.
