Coimbatore: A 36-year old man who allegedly tried to commit suicide to fulfill his vow to 'sacrifice' his life if AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa returned to power in the state was hospitalised, police said.

Rajkannan, a driver by profession, on Friday consumed cow dung powder, a poisonous substance, on the district collectorate premises, police said.

He had made a vow to 'sacrifice' his life if Jayalalithaa returned to power in the state and had informed a few of his relatives about it, they said.

The AIADMK-led front on Friday trounced the ruling DMK-led front, sweeping to victory in 200 seats of the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
