New Delhi: Crimes against women from the North-East is increasing everyday. A local molested a Manipuri girl in her twenties in Munirka in South Delhi.
The local residents nabbed the molester immediately on Saturday and a case has been filed at the Vasant Vihar police station. The investigation officer said that a case in this regard has been registered under FIR number 722010.
Police officials are also questioning the man to find out whether he was an habitual offender.
“We are waiting for the report of the medical test conducted on the accused to ascertain if he was drunk during the molestation incident,” said a senior south district police officer.
The incident took place when the girl, who stays in a rented apartment at Munirka, had come out of her home around 11.30 pm to receive her younger sister who was returned from her work in Gurgaon that time every day. The accused, Dhirender Singh (26), saw the girl standing alone and started passing lewd comments. Singh then took hold of her hand and the girl slapped the accused. The girl raised an alarm and it forced him to let go off her.

“The woman immediately began shouting for help and within 15 minutes, the accused’s neighbours gathered and roughed him up. The police was informed and Dhirender was arrested,” said the officer.
The police official also said that Dhirender was working as a waiter in a South Indian restaurant in south Delhi.
The North-East helpline spokesperson said that girls from the region continued to be soft targets and at the receiving end of lecherous behaviour.
“Our girls are still being treated as outsiders. The incident has proved that we are still unsafe. Many girls residing in Munirka have personally told me that they feel insecure. We are thankful that the accused was not carrying arms,” said the spokesperson.
