The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in connection with a public interest litigation (PIL) that alleged that former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran misused his public office, media reports said.

"The petition alleges that Maran had set up a BSNL exchange in Chennai and routed the lines to Sun TV offices," CNN-IBN reported.

"In 2007, the CBI´s Chennai branch had drafted a note saying that the lines originally meant for his residential address were used by the Sun TV Network, causing huge losses to the central government," the report said.

Pertinently, Dayanidhi´s brother Kalanithi Maran is the owner of Sun TV .

Maran´s name was also dragged in the 2G scam earlier.

Dayanidhi Maran was also quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2011 over the 2G spectrum scam case.

Maran had resigned from the union Cabinet in July 2011 over the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

It was alleged that Maran as the Telecom Minister during his 2004 to 2007 tenure had ´deliberately´ delayed licence to telecom company Aircel and misused his office to force Aircel sell the entire stake in the company to Malaysia-based Maxis Communication owned by T Anandakrishnan, who is reportedly close to his family.
