Marathon to herald women's empowerment organised in Jammu

Scores of youngsters took part in a marathon event here to spread awareness about women's empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

The event was flagged off jointly by the state's Minister of Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj-Mohi-ud- Din and Minster of Culture and Floriculture, Raman Bhalla.

Among the spectators was Bollywood actress, Tia Bajpai and she endorsed the race and said that the empowerment of women is an essential in the Indian society.

"People keep talking about everything, expect women, so I think rather than concentrating on terrorism, we should also raise voice against assaults on women. So that's really awareness that they are trying to create and I am supporting them completely," said Bajpai.

The 8.5 kms long race passed through B. C. Road, Amphalla, Kachi Chawni, Parade, Shalimar, Gumat and culminated at the stadium.

The race was dedicated to the dignity and pride of Indian women. (ANI)
