Massive quake hits Japan, Tokyo hit

Tokyo, Dec 7 (IBNS) A big quake measuring 7.3 in the Richter scale hit eastern coast of Japan on Friday, shaking capital Tokyo and triggering a tsunami warning, official reports said.

According to United States Geological Survey, the epicenter of the quake was 245 km south east of Kamaishi at a depth of 36 km,.

The quake hit the same region where it had occurred last year in March and triggered tsunami that swept away human habitation and caused a nuclear meltdown in a plant at Fukushima.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the coast of Miyagi Prefecture.

TV footage from Tokyo showed the buildings shaking in the capital city.
