Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has written a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and refuted the allegations of corruption in implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in the state.
Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar read out a statement by Mayawati in Lucknow and said that whatever complaints are being received from Centre on such issues, are being attended to and action taken report is being sent back to the Centre.
Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh had accused the Mayawati government of "continuing inaction" in instances of "grave irregularities" in the implementation of the MGNREGA.
Ramesh had in a letter to Mayawati pointed out that as many as 22 reports of National Level Monitors (NLMs), which brought out serious violations of funds, were pending for action from the state government.
Mayawati on withholding release of funds under MNREGS said that the funds released by Centre were not a largess, but form a part of the revenue sharing mechanism under federal system. (ANI)
