Mumbai: A mob of around hundred-odd people from various political parties stormed the MiD DAY's office in Mumbai. They demanded the press office to retract an expose on a Shiv Sena leader and publish an apology.

They threatened to vandalise the office in the presence of cops. The police were called in when the mob turned aggressive. The mob even threatened the receptionist when she refused to get the editor on the phone.

The Shiv Sena leader in question, Shashikant Sawant, was however not a part of the mob.

On Monday, MiD DAY  had published a cover story (Read: Cop begs Raj to save his wife from Sena man’s indecent proposal) on how a police constable was pushed to approach MNS chief Raj Thackeray to take action against Sawant for harassing his wife.

The constable said that he approached the MNS chief only after his many complaints had fallen on deaf ears.

The mob, consisting of special executive officers from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress, gave the paper a three-day ultimatum to publish an apology.

Here are tweets from MiD DAY's executive editor, Sachin Kalbag:

@SachinKalbag:

The police are already posted at our office. It is a shame that a media office in Mumbai now needs police protection from political vandals.

@SachinKalbag:

This is not the first time Congress has attacked @mid_day. A few years ago, 2006, a mob led by Cong's Charanjeet Sapra vandalised our office

@SachinKalbag:

In response to the political vandals' threat that they will "return & increase our TRPs" on Friday, we have asked the Police for bandobast.

@SachinKalbag

The following parties came to vandalise our office yesterday: Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena. Fortunately, we called the police in time.

@SachinKalbag:

They identified themselves, gave us their visiting cards. Some of them were local office bearers. Parties confirmed.
