British men are using their mobile phones to avoid the last-minute shopping panic that is characteristic before Christmas Eve, a new research has revealed.

According to research commissioned by online payment service Paypal, the number of British men waiting until the last minute is likely to halve this year.

This is due to more than one in ten British men saying they had already bought or plan to buy gifts using their mobile phone this Christmas, and nearly half, 46 percent, browsing for products on their phones.

According to the Telegraph, men in the East of England, Glasgow and Belfast are the worst offenders leaving Christmas shopping for the last minute, with their counterparts being the best to shop.

Smartphones' increasing popularity as a tool for checking prices and making purchases seems to have cured the stereotype of men leaving all-important Christmas shopping to the last minute, the report said.

More broadly, shoppers of both genders are using their mobile phones to scan barcodes to get more information such as sizes of clothes and shoes for presents.

"The mobile shopping revolution is having an unexpected impact on those Christmas shoppers who tend to leave it to the last minute, typically men," Rob Skinner, a PayPal spokesman, said of the report.

"We're finding it easy to buy presents in our spare time, whether it's on the morning commute or in front of the TV. It means we can avoid the weekend rush on the high street," Skinner said. (ANI)
